Check out this video about Harney County!

It’s so well done - and keep an eye out for our very own Forrest Keady!

The Central Hotel sits on the south end of our downtown main street (Broadway Avenue). There are multiple restaurants within walking distance along with a grocery store only a couple of blocks away (with a Starbucks inside!)

Central Hotel Food Recommendations

  • El Toreo - on the block right next to us and offers Mexican fare

  • Juniper Cookhouse - local Mennonite community. Open T/W/T (seasonally). GREAT food and great people! Breakfast & Lunch

  • Linda’s Thai Room - authentic and delicious, (hours have recently changed). Call 541-573-3201.. recommend ordering TO GO and eat at the Hotel! :)

  • Fran’s Broadway Deli - amazing baked goods and lunch specials

  • Pine Room- steaks/seafood/pasta/full bar. Lunch & Dinner. (Roughly half a mile from the hotel… still walkable, right??). We love to sit on the bar side!

  • Figaros or Glory Days - Pizza & good news —> they both are usually available for DELIVERY!

  • Steens Mountain Drive Through Coffee (& FOOD!!) - on the block right across from Safeway - great breakfast & lunch options

  • Jitters Coffee Hut - near Burns High School & the Shell Station. Grab a ‘pick me up’ before you head out!

  • Annie’s Bakery - have you had a Kolache?? Pop in and grab a dozen to go! Don’t forget the mustard! I love the ‘sparkler’!

With any of these food options consider taking it to go and come back to the outdoor patio and fire pits or the guest ‘Living Room’ and eat in!

Go see our neighbors along the main street corridor … We have some great little shops and boutiques. Make sure you stop in at:

  • American Honey Boutique (next to Family Eyecare) - an AMAZING and unique boutique! You’ll love Ashley and all of the fun things she offers.

  • Blue Spruce Collective (in the newly renovated Palace across the street). You will fall in LOVE with the super soft clothing, local Harney County swag, bean and ground coffee, and all kinds of cool things. Men’s, women’s, and little people clothing! Check Jamie’s amazing little shop out! :)

  • Propagate - House Plants & Nefarious Novelties (also in the newly renovated Palace!) Ok Folks - this space is going to knock-your-socks-OFF! BEAUTIFUL space - beautiful plants for sale, huge assortment of pots, funny cards, plant hangers, and ‘nefarious novelties’. Go see for yourself!

  • The Andalusion. THIS PLACE! A huge undertaking by Nick & Victoria to transform a very rundown space into something gorgeous. “Artisan Chic” living … she builds the furniture in the store by hand from materials that she and her husband collect from rehab projects. She also carries gorgeous blankets & pillows, beautiful notebooks, unique home goods… you won’t be disappointed.

  • The Barn and their great selection of cute locally made signs, Pendleton blankets, toys galore, and cute clothes!

  • Further up main street you'll find Ribbons & Roses and The Book Parlor. Great shops - great people! :)

Looking for an adventure?

  • Aldens School of Leather Trade is an AMAZING school where you can take week long classes learning different leather skills. Stay with us while you take a class with him and receive 15% off your stay!

  • Crane Hot Springs is another unique and sought-after destination - only a 20 minute drive from the hotel. The water is fantastic!

If you want to make a loop, may we suggest you venture to Hotel Diamond? Great owners and meals. If you’ve heard about the Steens Mountains you should check them out! And PEOPLE … the ALVORD DESERT?!!! Have you been there? This is almost embarrassing to say … (since I lived in Burns all my ‘growing up’ years ..) but I had never been to the Alvord until March 2020 while on COVID Lockdown. Talk about an easy way to be ‘socially distanced’! This place is nothing short of SPECTACULAR. Ask me for more info on how to get there and where to go. (About 2 hours from Burns). You’ll be hungry once you’ve trekked that far … so make plans to grab a burger and shake from Fields Station. Super fun day!
